i’m ordering a second E1B Backup

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

At first I thought these tools were overpriced… SureFire is totally worth it. My wife likes it so much, I’m ordering one for her!

—————

Excellent….except

I will basically agree with the other reviews here, but I feel there are two minor improvements that would needed to rate this light a 5. First, I think the low beam is a bit too bright. If you need a bright light, you have the high beam. Therefore, I believe the low output should be reduced by at least 1/2 (if not more).

Secondly, I take issue with the clip. The design is interesting in that one can carry bezel up or down (though I don’t know anyone who carries bezel up), but what bothers me is that the clip is not very tight. I am very concerned that this little guy is going to fall out of my pocket unnoticed some day and I’ll be out $110 dollars (lapolicegear.com). This to me is a somewhat major fault, and one that surely could be easily corrected. For years I have carried a Spyderco Rescue Jr. (http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=13) knife daily and love the clip on it, for example.

Lastly, I will say that I find the High/Low toggle to be easy to use, and also quite applicable even for tactical situations. This is primarily due to the auto reset feature. You have to push the switch again within 2 seconds of the first push (High) to get the low setting to illuminate. If you fail to do so after 2 seconds, the next time the light will come on High automatically. This way you only get low when you try, and you know you will always get high on first push.

E1B-BK-WH A serious light tool

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

I’ve had Surefire flashlights for years and have enjoyed the move from filament bulbs to top quality LEDs. To be brief, if you may need a fantastic, little, light-weight, long-lasting flashlight (who doesn’t?), this is the a single.

The five lumen output setting is plenty for just about any use, while the 80 lumen setting is blinding. Not like a 225 lumen filament bulb, obviously, but plenty to genuinely light things up in case you need to.

With a 37-hour run time on the 5 lumen setting, this light finally offers me what I’ve been waiting for: a light little sufficient to Always carry with a battery life that provides real utility. The method of operation is a small awkward at first. 1 click on the butt-cap button presents the full 80 lumens. A second click provides you the 5 lumen setting. Once I got applied to this operation, I realize it makes good sense and is uncomplicated to use.

The top quality of construction is usual Surefire: The finest materials, design and execution. The beam is sharply focused and also the light color is an interesting tone, very much warmer than the Surefire L2 I have.

This very much money for a small flashlight? It depends upon how critical light would be to you. To me, having a tiny, no-compromise device which enables me to carry instant light is both a luxury and a necessity. That is a 21st century tool which conquers the darkness and worth each penny.

E1B always handy

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

The Backup is my favorite Surefire lumination, or any brand lumination. Surefire’s classic 6P has been around for years and has been carried from the duty belt of police officer, the webgear of military members to the pocket of sportsman and pilots. It was the most rugged, brightest and lightest lumination for its size. It revolutionized what flashlights could do and spelled the end with the giant maglight on the duty belt. The only downside was the fairly short battery life. This was corrected to a fantastic extend with the release of the 6P LED.

But the Backup is now what the 6P was back then, but even far more versatile. The move to LEDs has greatly increased battery life while, although increasing the ruggedness of the bulb. The fact that Surefire was able to develop such an amazing bright light in such a modest package shows they are usually pushing the edge when it come to technology. The ability to use the light on the low output 5 lumen makes this the very best hand held, general use lumination Surefire offers. I’ll admit that my old E1 gets used additional than any other lumination, simply because you do not have to have 80 lumen of lumination to read or discover something within the dark. The capacity to do both using the Backup means you get the finest of both worlds. And owing to its little size it is quick to slip in a pocket meaning you’ll usually have lumination whenever you need it.

Lots of men and women will look at the price and desire to know what justifies so much money for a flashlight. Surefire all come with a no question asked lifetime warranty. Bulbs burn out and switches wear but almost anything else Surefire will fix. In over ten years I’ve only had to send on lighting to Surefire for repair and that was my fault. Even so they repaired it and sent it back at no cost to me. Its an incredible lighting from a great organization and you can’t go wrong with it.

Product Reviews-Expensive,but worth it!

I’ve always been a sucker for small, well made products.

This flashlight is a prime example. The [rated] 80 lumen output is the same as a 3-cell MagLight, but this seems brighter. One reason may be the beam collimation, which is better than any flashlight I have seen.

The beam color is pure white, with no yellow overtones such as one gets with an incandescent bulb (OK, that’s not a surprise for a LED). The low setting is more than enough for walking at night, even on irregular ground. The high setting will amaze you. And it’s SO small!
—————————————–
The best I’ve seen. Ever.

This is the flashlight for everyone. very small yet extremely powerful. It does not have all the irritating high, med, low, and flashing beams some others have. Its blessed with an extremely powerful high beam and the perfectly bright low beam. It defaults to high so you don’t have to cycle thru. Expensive but worth it.

Product Reviews-Amazingly powerful light in a tiny package

23 July, 2010 (19:13) | Product Reviews | By: admin

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

This light is smaller than it may look on photos, and feels light and comfortable in your hand or pocket. It is easy to keep it with you at all times. It’s high setting is blindingly strong and very conservatively rated – some people claim that it is really 110 lumens or more, which is plenty of light, much more than you get from a cheaper Maglite or most other lights of similar size. The low light setting is more useful for looking at closer distances like inside a room or campsite. I did quite a bit of research, and as of this writing this seems to be the best light in terms of price, performance, battery life, size and weight. It is pricey but worth it!
——————————————-
Can’t beat it

this is hands down the best flash lght I own.
I’ll be the first to admit I have a flashlight problem.
This little light has more light than my mag charger on the high setting and last forever on the low setting.
I highly recommend this light for daily carry as it just disappears in your pocket.

SureFire E1B Backup Review

22 July, 2010 (14:30) | Product Reviews | By: admin

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

This is the greatest flashlight I’ve ever owned, along with the most expensive.

When I received it, the very first thing that struck me was how little it is. I was slightly disappointed at its size, simply because for some reason I imagined it to be slightly larger. It is so modest that whenever you hold it, you cant even see it from the back of your hand. And yet, the light is so bright that when I accidentally flashed in my own eyes, I kept seeing blind spots and had to wait 3-5 mins until I got my full vision back. To say its bright is an understatement.

I took it with me on a cabin trip last weekend, and the strength of the light actually impressed me. It can fully illuminate whichever direction its pointed into, which was excellent to have while walking my dog in pure darkness.

At first, I thought the lower light setting was pretty useless, until I started utilizing the flashlight inside the car exactly where the brightest setting is so bright that it will reflect actually tough off of ANY map or paper to the point where it’s unreadable. Now I absolutely appreciate the lower light setting.

Feels excellent in your hands and I’ve instantly become a lifetime buyer of SureFire flashlights.

Best compact combat light available!

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

I currently own five Surefire lights and have applied a number of weapon mounted Surefires too. I have to say that this light replaced the E2D that I carried every single day for years. The choice of low/high power is merely wonderful. The low power alternative is fantastic for everyday sort uses that I encounter frequently.

Occasionally I’ll use the higher energy mode to spotlight something at night. The ability to do both with the very same light is wonderful as I previously had to carry two lights to accomplish the very same thing.

The belt clip is a nice feature but not particularly useful should you are exceptionally active and I generally carry this torch in my lower right trouser pocket of my ACUs.

Whilst I always carry a much more powerful Surefire on combat missions attached to my rifle, this little guy generally travels with me as a wonderful back-up or a companion for my M9. Truly a great light and an excellent value!

E1b is best one!

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight
I’ve carried this light every single day for nearly 2 years now. I own 4 diverse Surefire G-2′s and a variety of other little mag-lites, penlights, etc.that I bought in life prior to I discovered Surefire’s. (All non-surefire’s are delegated to a single kitchen drawer, but wife and kids all grab Surefires when they need/want a light.)

Being left handed I carry this in my correct(weak hand) pocket. It is short sufficient that I can sit without it bothering me or getting bound-up from the pocket. I can lift either a knife clipped in my left pocket, or I’ve a weapons permit and which is on my left side.but the surefire comes up initial for everything from my off-hand side to see whatever I need to.

It really is simply amazing to me just how much you will use something if it truly is close at hand. I use this light various times a day on a slow day. Battery life is remarkable and you get your option between blinding and low light – extremely handy! It defaults to the “blinding” mode which is wonderful – no thinking about it – so it really is always ready to be there for your personal defense – whenever you need to have it at the highest setting.

The clip is cool too – it clips a couple diverse ways. Like to my ball cap – a bit heavy, but again.if it truly is ‘on me’ I’ll use it – and since I wear a ball cap all the time when not functioning, it truly is a fantastic hands free of charge way to go. Working inside garage, on the vehicles, etcI have numerous great headlamps, but they are in my pack, or inside the house, and so on. and this E1b is “on me”. Being able to attach to a ball cap is a truly cool deal. I’ve even utilized it that way at baseball tournaments in dark dug-outs.

Becuase the clip is a 2-way clip, it also clips to packs, PFD’s, heck about anything. I’ve gone swimming (dumped from the boat accidently) and it truly is been fine. It truly is been dropped countless times. It is got wear scratches on it, but it really is as functional as the day I got it. Yes, it is Really costly (so I thought) but knowing just how much I use it now.it is worth every single penny.

I would purchase another just like it in a HEARTBEAT if I ever had to.

Probably the best in its class

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

I carry one of these little Surefire’s daily and use it so a great deal it is hard to imagine how I got by without it. Yes, it’s hard to justify spending $110 to $149 (the range of costs I’ve seen advertised) for a flashlight. You either need to be a flashlight nut like me or have a specific purpose for such a light.

Surefire has the reputation of making dependable and durable lights, prized by military, law enforcement and emergency personnel. These individuals need lights that are pretty very much 100% reliable. Surefire has a great warranty and their lights are over-engineered like mad. That’s a lot of what you pay for whenever you buy a Surefire flashlight.

This specific light is little but powerful. It uses optics to concentrate the beam. I don’t know how lumens are measured or any of the technical stuff involved. I’ve a number of flashlights that advertise far more than the 80 lumens Surefire claims for this light. But only a couple of them in fact put out a beam as bright as the E1b on the high setting. On the low setting, you get a very useful amount of light about equivalent to an LED Mini Maglite. It’s somewhat fiddley to get to the low setting–you have to go via the high setting initial. You will eventually work out how you’ll deal with this and it will soon cease to be an issue.

Other than the price, this is about the best light for everyday use. As a lower priced alternative, you may want to check out the Fenix PD20. It has much more settings and it is even smaller than the E1b. I have both but the Surefire is in my pocket nearly all the time.

GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES

17 July, 2010 (18:34) | Product Reviews | By: admin

This review is from:SureFire E1B Backup E1B-BK-WH LED Flashlight

It is true, very good points do come in small packages. The E1b “Backup” by Surefire could be the perfect example of this.

This light is possibly my favorite light of all of them, and trust me.. I own a really varied collection of flashlights. These are some awesome features of the “Backup:”

1. Really little. Fits inside the palm of your hand. Rides in your pant pocket and you won’t even notice it’s there until you reach for it. It features a 2-way pocket clip. Carry it bezel up or bezel down, take your pick.

2. 80 lumens on tactical level of light, or 5 lumens for prolonged battery duration. Although it truly is rated at 80 lumens, this small light ourperforms my Fenix P3D, which is rated at a maximum of 215 lumens. It outperforms my Blackhawk Gladius. It outperforms my Streamlight Stinger. ****UPDATE: I just purchased the Surefire 6p LED and G3 LED, both also rated at 80 lumens, as well as the E1B outshines them both, and it carries a much better “throw.” Maybe Surefire must re-classify the E1B as having much more than 80 lumens?

3. Despite being an LED light, the beam travels very far, and it gives an intense bright circle of light at the middle, with a generously wide and bright peripheral illumination area.

4. Runs on a single CR123a battery. This means you can ditch your xenon lights and save all the batteries they eat up for this little guy.

5. Wonderful reflector and super clear lens.

6. It features a lockout feature on the tactical tailcap so that you won’t accidentally drain the battery if it turns on without you noticing.

7. Excellent for self-defense (can be utilized to blind an oponent, and if things get definitely rough you possibly can use it to put some additional weight on your closed fist and hammer in a stronger punch), wonderful for undercover police officers, backup light for regular police officers, best for civilian use because of its modest size, fine for disasters, and roadside emergencies.

This is pretty much the all around flashlight. You won’t really need another flashlight once you purchase this one. I think it’s definitely worth the cost. And if you’re good at shopping for bargains, I’m sure in case you look tough sufficient you could find it for under $100 just like I did.

Now you may be wondering what the cons of this light are. What blemishes does it have? The answer is none. This light is perfect. Possibly the only bad thing is the selling price, but that’s nothing new considering it is a Surefire after all. Trust me, it is worth it!
