Backup really works well

The Surefire E1B Backup is a wonderful flashlight.

Bright enough to blind an attacker at night and compact enough to carry everywhere it should never leave your side. The low intensity setting allows for good utility when super bright is not required.

The smooth finish really does not tear up pants like the usual knurled finish on the surefire flashlights, no more frayed pocket edges. The clip is also a big improvement allowing for tip up or tip down carry as well as clipping the Backup to your ball cap for hands free use.

I’ve had it for about a month now and I can’t imagine being without my backup. Highly recommended.

Reviews : Best in class with one caveat

This is usually a pretty good flashilight. As far as a backup goes, you can’t beat it. The light’s intensity when on “high beam” is amazing, and also the choice for a “low beam” makes it far more of versatile light than say, the Surefire E2.

Nonetheless… In particular circles, there is really a drawback. When you initially hit the button, you get the substantial beam. If you’re within the habit of pulsing the switch so as to illuminate but not constantly stream the light, once you pulse it a second time, you only get the lower beam, not the great again. So, pulse one = substantial beam. Pulse two = minimal beam, not substantial. This alone compromises this light’s usefullness for certain applications.

So this light is what it says it is, a backup. It will not entirely cover the functionality of a purely tactical flashlight. The reduced beam is nice for reading maps and eliminated the need for a microlight, though.

E1B-BK-WH A serious light tool

I’ve had Surefire flashlights for years and have enjoyed the move from filament bulbs to top quality LEDs. To be brief, if you may need a fantastic, little, light-weight, long-lasting flashlight (who doesn’t?), this is the a single.

The five lumen output setting is plenty for just about any use, while the 80 lumen setting is blinding. Not like a 225 lumen filament bulb, obviously, but plenty to genuinely light things up in case you need to.

With a 37-hour run time on the 5 lumen setting, this light finally offers me what I’ve been waiting for: a light little sufficient to Always carry with a battery life that provides real utility. The method of operation is a small awkward at first. 1 click on the butt-cap button presents the full 80 lumens. A second click provides you the 5 lumen setting. Once I got applied to this operation, I realize it makes good sense and is uncomplicated to use.

The top quality of construction is usual Surefire: The finest materials, design and execution. The beam is sharply focused and also the light color is an interesting tone, very much warmer than the Surefire L2 I have.

This very much money for a small flashlight? It depends upon how critical light would be to you. To me, having a tiny, no-compromise device which enables me to carry instant light is both a luxury and a necessity. That is a 21st century tool which conquers the darkness and worth each penny.

Product Reviews-Expensive,but worth it!

I’ve always been a sucker for small, well made products.

This flashlight is a prime example. The [rated] 80 lumen output is the same as a 3-cell MagLight, but this seems brighter. One reason may be the beam collimation, which is better than any flashlight I have seen.

The beam color is pure white, with no yellow overtones such as one gets with an incandescent bulb (OK, that’s not a surprise for a LED). The low setting is more than enough for walking at night, even on irregular ground. The high setting will amaze you. And it’s SO small!
—————————————–
The best I’ve seen. Ever.

This is the flashlight for everyone. very small yet extremely powerful. It does not have all the irritating high, med, low, and flashing beams some others have. Its blessed with an extremely powerful high beam and the perfectly bright low beam. It defaults to high so you don’t have to cycle thru. Expensive but worth it.

Product Reviews-Amazingly powerful light in a tiny package

This light is smaller than it may look on photos, and feels light and comfortable in your hand or pocket. It is easy to keep it with you at all times. It’s high setting is blindingly strong and very conservatively rated – some people claim that it is really 110 lumens or more, which is plenty of light, much more than you get from a cheaper Maglite or most other lights of similar size. The low light setting is more useful for looking at closer distances like inside a room or campsite. I did quite a bit of research, and as of this writing this seems to be the best light in terms of price, performance, battery life, size and weight. It is pricey but worth it!

Can’t beat it

this is hands down the best flash lght I own.
I’ll be the first to admit I have a flashlight problem.
This little light has more light than my mag charger on the high setting and last forever on the low setting.
I highly recommend this light for daily carry as it just disappears in your pocket.

Best compact combat light available!

I currently own five Surefire lights and have applied a number of weapon mounted Surefires too. I have to say that this light replaced the E2D that I carried every single day for years. The choice of low/high power is merely wonderful. The low power alternative is fantastic for everyday sort uses that I encounter frequently.

Occasionally I’ll use the higher energy mode to spotlight something at night. The ability to do both with the very same light is wonderful as I previously had to carry two lights to accomplish the very same thing.

The belt clip is a nice feature but not particularly useful should you are exceptionally active and I generally carry this torch in my lower right trouser pocket of my ACUs.

Whilst I always carry a much more powerful Surefire on combat missions attached to my rifle, this little guy generally travels with me as a wonderful back-up or a companion for my M9. Truly a great light and an excellent value!

Probably the best in its class

I carry one of these little Surefire’s daily and use it so a great deal it is hard to imagine how I got by without it. Yes, it’s hard to justify spending $110 to $149 (the range of costs I’ve seen advertised) for a flashlight. You either need to be a flashlight nut like me or have a specific purpose for such a light.

Surefire has the reputation of making dependable and durable lights, prized by military, law enforcement and emergency personnel. These individuals need lights that are pretty very much 100% reliable. Surefire has a great warranty and their lights are over-engineered like mad. That’s a lot of what you pay for whenever you buy a Surefire flashlight.

This specific light is little but powerful. It uses optics to concentrate the beam. I don’t know how lumens are measured or any of the technical stuff involved. I’ve a number of flashlights that advertise far more than the 80 lumens Surefire claims for this light. But only a couple of them in fact put out a beam as bright as the E1b on the high setting. On the low setting, you get a very useful amount of light about equivalent to an LED Mini Maglite. It’s somewhat fiddley to get to the low setting–you have to go via the high setting initial. You will eventually work out how you’ll deal with this and it will soon cease to be an issue.

Other than the price, this is about the best light for everyday use. As a lower priced alternative, you may want to check out the Fenix PD20. It has much more settings and it is even smaller than the E1b. I have both but the Surefire is in my pocket nearly all the time.
