Takes a beating
This review is from: SureFire E2D LED Defender Dual-Output LED (200 Lumens)
I bought my E2D LED Defender about 3 years ago while I was in Iraq. I needed a second brightness in addition for the tac-light on my weapon (SureFire Scout Lite M900…extremely recommended too). Few notes below:
Durable: The LED characteristic sold me. Far much more durable than the regular bulbs. There’s an excellent lens on this lumination. Quite thick and does a fantastic job focusing the light. Also, I do not know if this really is a specified characteristic, but my lumination spent over a day wallowing in diesel fuel (almost entirely submersed). I cleaned the lumination with non-corrosive oil and that was it…still lighting up the night.
Shock Proof: I have no idea how numerous times I dropped this with no negative effect for the lumination. This lighting was on me during a dismounted patrol when we were hit with an enemy fragmentation grenade. It blew out four of our tac-lights on our weapons, but I had my E2D as back up to assist in clearing the area. The gentle was clipped to my belt on the side of the blast, so it was even far more exposed than my weapon light. Could we file this under ‘lifesaver’?
Battery life: Dual output characteristic is good. I sort of overlooked this element when I purchased it. Having a higher output and low output is an outstanding capability for that user. High output is fantastic for outdoor use and temporary blinding. Low output is ideal for indoor use when you do not wish to compromise your natural night vision.
Defender Bezel: Another element I overlooked. I never used it in a ‘defensive’ manner, but it contributes for the durability. Dropping the light lens very first, countless times, has done nothing towards brightness. Additionally, this bezel is wonderful for breaking windows (non-ballistic of course).
Occassionally breaking a window on a local national’s vehicle/home is mission vital (extracting people from car accidents, gaining access towards vic/house without using a known entry point, or many other reasons).
Hot knife via butter.
So far my lighting has spent 10 months in Iraq, 13 months state-side in training areas, and 5 months (and going) in Afghanistan. Initially, I was apprehensive about paying $120 for a backup lumination. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid twice the asking price. That is a single of those items that is an essential part of my kit and I will own 1 for your rest of my life. Must this just one ever fail..
.doubtful…I will certainly purchase an additional 1. I’m not sure why it’s so much now, but look around the net for the same gentle. I know you’ll be able to get it for less.
