Probably the best in its class

I carry one of these little Surefire’s daily and use it so a great deal it is hard to imagine how I got by without it. Yes, it’s hard to justify spending $110 to $149 (the range of costs I’ve seen advertised) for a flashlight. You either need to be a flashlight nut like me or have a specific purpose for such a light.
Surefire has the reputation of making dependable and durable lights, prized by military, law enforcement and emergency personnel. These individuals need lights that are pretty very much 100% reliable. Surefire has a great warranty and their lights are over-engineered like mad. That’s a lot of what you pay for whenever you buy a Surefire flashlight.
This specific light is little but powerful. It uses optics to concentrate the beam. I don’t know how lumens are measured or any of the technical stuff involved. I’ve a number of flashlights that advertise far more than the 80 lumens Surefire claims for this light. But only a couple of them in fact put out a beam as bright as the E1b on the high setting. On the low setting, you get a very useful amount of light about equivalent to an LED Mini Maglite. It’s somewhat fiddley to get to the low setting–you have to go via the high setting initial. You will eventually work out how you’ll deal with this and it will soon cease to be an issue.
Other than the price, this is about the best light for everyday use. As a lower priced alternative, you may want to check out the Fenix PD20. It has much more settings and it is even smaller than the E1b. I have both but the Surefire is in my pocket nearly all the time.
